"I'm a Certified Management Accountant helping thousands pass the CMA exam. I want to help you too!"

Hi! My Name Is NATHAN LIAO

I’m thrilled you’re here—because you and I, we’re a lot alike. We’re both looking to excel in our careers by increasing our knowledge, influence and income.

Which means neither of us can avoid one super important key to all of this… being a CMA.

As a professional, I'm sure you know firsthand how competitive and challenging it is to move up the ladder in the corporate world.

The only thing standing between you and where you deserve to be in your career is the CMA designation.

Well, not anymore.

I created CMA Coach as a resource to help you pass the exam in less time, while saving more in the long run.

I passed the CMA Exam when I was 27 years old while working full-time as a Corporate Controller, and running a side business on nights and weekends.

I know what it’s like to study for the CMA Exam while trying to balance a full-time job, a side business, family commitments, friends, a mortgage, travel, etc.

Whatever your circumstances, I can probably identify with them.

When I made the decision to become a CMA, it seemed like such an impossible goal. With passing rates as low as 35%, I didn’t feel very confident that I would pass, much less on my first try.

After developing a study plan and following it diligently while discovering studying and exam techniques, I sat for each exam and passed both on my first try.

It took me a total of 6 months to prepare for both exams.

Being a CMA has opened up so many doors in my career as a Corporate Controller and entrepreneur. I haven’t only acquired advanced skills in accounting and finance, but also in business and strategy.

Looking for a personalized approach? Our CMA exam tutor services offer one-on-one coaching, ensuring you get the individual attention you need to excel in your CMA exam preparation.

What are the intentions of this blog?

  • To guide you through your exam preparation and see you pass both parts of the CMA exam on your first try.
  • To be used as an online resource for all your CMA knowledge needs.
  • To provide reliable, informative and organized information about the CMA exam.
  • To create a community of CMA candidates.
  • To guide you to choose the best CMA review course by providing an in-depth analysis of each one.
  • To provide CMA Exam Videos that’ll help you apply your knowledge and teach you how to answer questions on the exam.

My Background

Education

Undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. I wasn’t enrolled in their online program but rather attended one of their campuses in Southern California.

Obtained my CMA designation in 2010.
Scored 420 in Part 1, and 360 in Part 2.

Work Experience

I began my career in the accounting field as a clerk back in 2001. Later, I moved up the ranks until at 25 years old I was promoted to Corporate Controller at a multi-million dollar company in Southern California. I know firsthand that the knowledge gained from the CMA designation helped me thrive as a Management Accountant.

CMAExamAcademy.Com

When I learned that the CMA exam pass rate was 35%, I began blogging about the exam. Then, thousands of candidates asked me to teach them the CMA subject matter, so I listened and launched my online coaching program CMA Exam Academy. It's the only 1-on-1 exam prep coaching program in the CMA market with a 92% exam pass rate.

  1. Hello Nathan,

I’m about to start CMA and have a question on eligibility for getting the certification.

    * I dont not hold undergraduate degree however with my Diploma in management accounting certificate and over 5 years of senior level experience in Accounting I was offered to do MBA in international business by the university of west of Scotland and completed it 5 months ago.

    * I now hold MBA in international business and Diploma in management accounting addition to 7 years of experience in Accounting and Finance. Most of my duties match the CMA requirements.

Based on the above will be accepted to offer CMA certification after passing the exams? or do I still require a bachelor degree?

    1. Hi Shuhail,

I would encourage you to reach out to the IMA as they might take special cases into consideration. you can contact them via their CMA Experience Requirement Form on their official website or you can email them at [email protected].

For more info on the CMA requirements please visit https://www.cmacoach.com/become-a-cma/

Keep in mind that you can fulfill the education requirement either prior to taking the CMA exam or within 7 years of passing the CMA exam.

  5. Hello Nathan

I read CMAs normally get 60 credits (30 for each part)after clearing both the CMA exams. I wanted to ask how can these credits earned by me be beneficial . How can these credits be used,

    1. Hi Tara,

After you earned your CMA, you are required to complete 30 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) each year in order to maintain your certified status.

You can earn CPE by taking college or university courses, self-study courses, attending professional meetings, speaking as a lecturer or teacher in a program, and many other options.

For a full list of available options, please visit IMAnet.org.

  7. Hello Nathan,
Thanks for all the information that is available on your website. TBH there was more info in the comment section than the website lol.
I’m very much interested in doing CMA US. How long does it usually take for a person to pass the whole CMA program?

    1. Hi Michael,

I’m glad to hear you’re interested to pursue the CMA and we’d love to guide you through your journey!

Sixteen weeks of study for each part of the exam (16 weeks for Part One and an additional 16 weeks for Part Two) gives candidates ample time to learn everything they need to know to pass the CMA on the first attempt.

  8. Hello,
I just Cleared my CMA USA exams this October. I’m a US citizen currently based in India. I had a few queries.
    1. Can I work remotely from India till the Covid situation gets normal in any US company to complete the required 2 years expirience. (I’m ready to move there if the covid situation gets a little normal)
    2. If I want to apply for a masters program in the USA after CMA can I get scholarships based on my CMA exams

    1. Hi Tara,

      1. This is going to be based on company policy so when you get an interview ask about their remote work policy. You don’t have to work for a US company to fulfill the work requirement. You can work for any company anywhere in the world.

      2. Regarding an MBA scholarship, you’ll have to contact the university you want to get your MBA from and ask for information about their scholarship requirements.

      Nathan

  9. Hello sir..
I just cleared my US CMA part 1 exam.
As I was not confident of clearing this exam in Oct 2021 window, I have booked a slot in Feb 2022 window for my next attempt as soon as I did my part 1 exam.
Since I have already cleared my part 1, is it possible to change the part 1 slot to part 2 in Feb 2022 window?

    1. Hi Praveen,

For exam registration questions, please contact IMA’s customer service directly.

      Nathan

  10. Hello sir,
I am thinking of joining CMA next year. I just want to ask that is there any book or material I can use to prepare myself.
    Waiting for your answer

    Regards,
    Nafisa

  11. Sir , I am a student of commerce background. Will I must require a bachelor’s degree to do US CMA.

    1. As long as your bachelor’s degree is from an accredited university that’ll work. If you’re unsure about whether your degree meets the CMA criteria please contact the IMA directly. They’ll provide you with a final answer.

  12. Hi Nathan,

I am Nitin from India. Hope your doing Good!!!!!

I have completed my Part 2 of CMA, i just wanted to ask about the difficulty level of Part 1 over Part 2 with regard to the preparation and examination.

    Thanks in Advance.

    1. Hi Nitin,

That’s a good question. In reality, the difficulty level of each exam depends on the candidate’s educational and work experience background.

Students who majored in Accounting usually find Part 1 easier. But those who majored in Finance tend to be more familiar with Part 2 topics.

To help you make an informed decision, check out the syllabus for each part in the links below:

      Part 1 Syllabus
      Part 2 Syllabus

      Thanks,
      Nathan

  13. Hi, I am planning on buying CMA textbooks from the CMA EXAM ACADEMY. As I am living in INDIA currently, I wanted to know approximately how long shipping takes from the U.S. to India ??

    1. Hi Madhulika,

The textbooks will be delivered to you within 7-10 days. You’ll receive the tracking information on Monday 🙂

    1. Hi Vinod,

Yes, the US CMA is recognized in Canada. It’s a global certification and it’s recognized worldwide.

      Thanks,
      Nathan

  14. Hi Nathan,

Thank you for your blog that helps me out have more insight about the CMA US.
But, I am worried as English is my second language.

    1. Hi Didier,

This doesn’t have to be an obstacle in your studying for the CMA exam.

My CMA review textbooks are written in plain English, they are easy to read and understand – this has helped my international students overcome the language barrier, study more efficiently, and pass the exams. Your English level doesn’t have to be advanced to succeed in your CMA journey.

By the way, you can currently get those textbooks on promotion. Here’s more info about it.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to hit reply.

      Thank you,
      Nathan

  15. Hello Nathan,

I wish to get a pdf copy of your books. Please can you send me details about it? I checked your paperback version but here its a complete lockdown and also the cost of shipping is too high. It would be a big favor if you could send me a pdf copy of your books. I plead your help here because with great difficulty a received a scholarship and I don’t want to lose this opportunity.

    1. Hi Karthik,

Unfortunately, at this time we don’t have PDF versions for sale or distribution, only in paperback.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

      Thank you,
      Nathan

  16. Hi Nathan,
I have cleared part 2 exam on my first attempt, but I failed to clear Part 1 exam. I have write it 2 times, I got 350 marks both times and become very sad. Now I started to prepare one more time to take exam. Could you please give some advise to pass the exam for my upcoming exam.

    1. Hi Mohammed,

What I’d recommend you to do is take mock exams (50 MCQs) of one section only inside your test bank and practice until you consistently score around 90%. Repeat that for each section and then practice on the final exam simulation (4 hrs) and do your best to also score around 90% on it.

Check out also these tips on how to prepare more efficiently and ace your exam.

Good luck! You got this, Mohammed!

  17. Hello Nathan,

Hope all is well with you!

I am currently planning to do my first part on May 2020, so my question is when is the maximum date I should book for that exam(window).

    Thank You

    Faisal

    1. Hi Faisal,

It depends on your test center’s availability. You can check the available spots for booking your CMA exam date here:
      http://prometric.com/icma

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to hit reply!

      Thank you,
      Nathan

  18. Hi Nathan

Please i’m planing apply CMA material. can i get download option for your video and audio class becasus my current location internet feasibilities not good.

    Please Kindly advice

    1. Hi Shunmugapathi,

You can download the audio lessons, but not the video lessons.

When the internet connection is poor, sometimes putting the video on pause and let it load for a few minutes may do the trick 🙂

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

      Thanks,
      Nathan

  19. Hi Nathan,

    Hope you are well!
I want to got for CMA part 1 or 2exam this October,2019
can I get trained with your program to succeed within this period?

    thank you in advance,

    best regards,

    Nodir

    1. Hi Nodir,

You’ll need 3 full months to complete the course (one part) and a couple of weeks for reviewing the material.

I would advice you to wait for the new material to be released (mid September) and target for Jan/Feb exam window.

      Would that work for you?

  20. Currently I am working as a General Accountant in Dubai. I thought about entering CMA but I am a bit confused as to what benefit would I get academically by doing CMA. I personally am an ACCA and currently writing a thesis to get my bachelors which will be done by November hopefully.

    1. Hi Salman,

The CMA certification can boost your career and open a world of opportunities for you.

As a CMA you’ll have the necessary management skills to make financial decisions for a business or corporation, obtain an executive role and a higher salary.

Check out my blog post in the link below to read more on how the CMA designation can benefit you:

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

  21. Hello Nathan,

I have completed my graduation in 2010 and have worked for 7yrs in India. I have recently moved to UAE and is finding difficult to get job so i decided to do CMA for a better job offer. Though i took the CMA course from an institute which provided Gleim study material and training. I’m still worried whether i will clear the exam in first attempt. Please guide me how to focus on studying to clear the part 2 in first attempt with good grade.

    1. Hi Arpna,

One of the best methods to assess your readiness for the exam is by taking mock exams from a test bank. Aim to score above 85% on each section separately and then the same score on the entire part practice exam. Work on your speed as well, so you can comfortably answer all questions within the allotted time.

Here are a few tips to help you nail the MCQ portion of the exam.

If you need more help, let me know.

  22. Dear,

I would like to ask you if there are 10 questions are considered as an additional question in the exam, which are not calculated in the candidate’s marks?

( it could be like a test of the questions itself not a test for the candidates).

    1. Hi Yasser – yes, as part of those 100 MCQs there are 10 new and unscored questions that ICMA gathers statistics on, which helps them decide whether they should introduce them as scored questions in the next exams or not.

  23. Hi Nathan,

Please note I passed part two , and recently didn’t pass part one with a grade of 350 ; I have requested a re-grade for the part 1 since it s away only 10 points from the minimum score , how much do you think could be a chance that the result could turn positive , and whether It happened before with any CMA candidate and he/she got a score change

    1. Hi Ziad,

I can’t tell you for sure as I don’t have any statistics data on the re-grade.

I hope you’ll get a passing score after re-grade. Fingers crossed!

  24. Hello.

I am Shravya from India. I have completed my Graduation and planning to take up CMA in the US. I havent worked anywhere before but the basic criteria for appearing for the exam is 2 years. I also read elsewhere that a person without the any work experience can appear for the exam and once cleared shall work for 2 years in a span of years from the year of clearing CMA.

Will CMA(clearing both levels) help me find job though i have no experience?

    1. Hi Shravya,

Yes, the knowledge you’ll gain while studying for the CMA exam will help you land a job in management accounting faster and thus fulfill the experience requirement within 7 years after passing the exam.

  25. Hi Nathan Liao,
I just read your study material reviews for CMA exams. I want to know about your review for BECKER study material for the CMA exams. Actually, i want to pursue for CMA exams but I’m confused about choosing for study material. I live in Delhi(India) and here I search two coaching institutes one providing classes with WILEY material and the other one with BECKER. I got a review of WILEY but not of BECKER but also the coaching institute says BECKER is bestest of all. I’m very confused.
Please help me out of this..

    1. Hi Shivi,

I know that Becker have been around and are well known in the Middle East, but not in other parts of the world. I don’t plan on doing a review of their course. Out of the two, I would choose Wiley though.

Either way, wish you best of luck in your CMA journey!

  26. Hi Mr Nathan

I am a Cost Accountant from India. I derived my CMA in 2008 in the USA out of the MOU subsisting between ICMA, India and ICMA, USA.

    2. I ceased to be active in 2010. I am not in compliance with the CPE Renewal (fee) of Membership.

Can I add words CMA after my name on my busines cards or business communications?

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Joshi,

Unfortunately, if your CMA status is inactive, you are not allowed to present yourself as a CMA or use the CMA title.

  27. Hi, I am a commerce Graduate from India and having 14 years or non-finance/ account experience, I want to go for CMA , pl advise is it good for me , since I have never worked in the said field… also how much time will it takes for a person like me to pass the exam… Thanks

    1. Hi Pratik,

The CMA certification will open new career opportunities for you and will facilitate getting you a promotion to a management position. You can learn more about this credential and how to obtain it here.

Considering that you don’t have any accounting background, I believe it would take you around 1 year to prepare for and pass both CMA exams.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Cheers!

    1. Hi Fateh,

If you plan to live and work in India, then the Indian CMA should fit you better.

      Best wishes!

  28. Dear Sir,
I’m a Science background (very poor in mathematics and statistics) BBM-IB graduate from India. Should I pursue U.S. CMA ? or do some other course ? I mean will I be able to cope up with CMA syllabus ?
    Thanks
    Shreyas Shrikant

    1. Hey, Shreyas. I wasn’t great at math either before pursuing the CMA. While doing so, I got better at it and passed the exam on my first attempt!

Please, check my course here. It includes unlimited 1-on-1 coaching for you to ask as many questions as you need to fully grasp the material.

  29. Dear Nathan,
Thanks for doing this wonderful job of helping the students.

    Best Regards,

  34. Hello Nathan,

Thank you so much for your response. It was really helpful and now I guess all my doubts related to this certification are almost clear. Your blogs are really helpful. Thanks once again for all your time and efforts. I really appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Swati

    1. Hi Mr. Nathan,

Is it okay if I can have the CMA review next year even if I am a fresh graduate from the course management accounting? Is work experience mandatory for taking up the CMA exam?

      Thanks,
      Karla

      1. Hi Karla,

You may register under the student membership option. According to IMA,

“To qualify for Student membership, individuals must be enrolled in at least six (6) undergraduate or graduate credit hours, or the equivalent, per semester. Student membership can be held for a maximum of six (6) years. Student members who move to another membership category cannot revert back to Student membership.”

IMA provides a sufficient amount of time to complete the CMA Work Experience Requirement which is seven years from the date of passing the CMA exam.

        Thanks,
        Nathan

  35. Hi Nathan,

Thank you for your quick response. I live in the USA now and this is the reason I want to change my credentials. So, for the seminars or training do I need to invest a heavy amount of dollars every year or are they affordable? Because the web link IMA provides me for the CEP courses they are really expensive. So I was wondering, am I suppose to invest every year to buy those courses or I can buy them once and use every year? For your convenience, I am adding the web link IMA provided me before.

    https://www.imaonlinestore.com/PersonifyEbusiness/Default.aspx?TabId=56&Category=CPE&_ga=1.163571260.1668068046.1446044880

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate this.

    Thanks,
    Swati

    1. Hi Swati,

Yes, we have to invest in our continuing education as CMAs. They are quite affordable and some are offered by IMA for free.

You may also check my blog on how to earn CPE credits using this link.

      Thanks,
      Nathan

  36. Hi Nathan,
I have completed CMA degree from India (formerly known as ICWAI). I have asked with IMA about my degree if there is any chance I can convert those credits into the CMA certification. I have got a positive reply from them. I can get CMA certification with some formal steps with ICAI (Institute of Cost Accountant of India). But I have some question regarding CPE requirements every year. I want to know what exactly this CPE is and how it works? Also, do I suppose to give any exam every year to retain my certificate? This is really a very confusing step for me. Please help me to understand this. Thank you for your help in advance!

    1. Hi Swati,

You don’t need to take up exams each year to maintain the CMA under the ICAI IMA Mutual Agreement. All you need to do is to attend seminars or trainings that can be obtained through IMA online or at many other CPE providers. Credits earned from ICAI Continuing Education Programme (CEP) are also acceptable to IMA. IMA members residing in India may opt for CEP conducted by ICAI
for renewal of CMA Certification accordingly.

      Thanks,
      Nathan

  37. I Nathan,

can you please let me know where can I get CMA practice questions and answers for free.

    1. Hi Prasanth, please contact the IMA directly to get a definitive answer on that. I’m not certain. Thanks

  44. I am a student and am writing a paper for my cost accounting class about different certifications that we are interested in obtaining for our career. If you wouldn’t mind answering a few questions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Why did you originally decide to obtain a CMA?

Did you do a masters of accountancy program?

How was the preparation for the exams?

Did you find the exams difficult?

How do you think your CMA has helped you in your career?

Do you also have a CPA?

    Sincerely,

    Katrina Cranford

  45. Hi Nathan,

I am an engineering graduate, i have started doing cma. Is it worth-able to become a expert in two different field? Provide me a studying strategy for preparing for my examination.

  46. HI Nathan

i m going to appear in october window for part 1, as before i appeared in feb window but i didnt qualify i just get 200 marks, i need ur help this time . plz advise

  47. Respected Sir,

I am studying CMA inter and I have not given any attempt and I completed my M.com, I registered CMA inter, and also I didn’t take any coaching regarding to CMA. So please guide me how to pass. I want to give my attempt in December,2015

    1. Hi Mehaboob, are you studying for the CMA-USA exam? It sounds like you may be preparing for a different CMA designation. Could you please clarify? Thanks

  48. Hi,

I have cleared Part 2 in first attempt in 2012. but Part 1 is still pending due to personal reasons. Can I appear for it now?

    1. I believe you can Poonam. Contact the IMA to ensure that’s still possible without having to retake Part 2.

  49. Hi Nathan
I am doing C.A(chartered accountant) couse and studying b.com final year……Is I am eligible for CMA exam…..If yes then how I start my journey and self study will help me to clear the exam in first attempt?

  50. How r you I have just pass CMA -Australia and Planning to take My USA CMA in 2016 May Session and to start with part 2 , I need to know first what is your opinion in CMA Australia , And what is the right time for me to start studding to be able to pass the CMA . And what is the right Resources I should Use (hock , Glime …etc.) and is it ok to start with part 2 first .

    1. Hi Hind, I’m not familiar with CMA-Australia, only CMA-USA.

If you take the CMA-USA exam, you need at least 3 months to prepare for each part. I have an entire program that will guide you step by step so you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

  51. Hi Nathan,

Thank you for maintaining this incredible website! It really helps!

I want to take CMA exam. I’ve read your review course comparison, this seeks your advice on review course decision:

I graduated with Bachelor in business management, Masters in marketing, passed CFA level 1 (two years ago), and have now worked as a Financial Analyst in an FMCG company for a year.

With my background, would you think I still need in depth explanation etc offered by Wiley? Wiley is too much more expensive than Gleim, but I worry that if going with Gleim, my background may not provide sufficient accounting knowledge to understand Gleim’s material (vs. Wiley’s that has indepth explanation)?

I’ll really appreciate your response. Thanks a lot!

    DC

    1. Hi David,

I appreciate your kind words and that you find the site helpful. In your case I would suggest Hock CMA. It’s more economical than Wiley but provides depth in content coverage which is what you are looking for.

Alternatively, you can also check out my online program here.

  52. hi all

I followed Mr. Nathan’s study guide and scored 430 in part 1 (Oct 2014). Waiting for my Part 2 (June 2015) results. I was from an Indian educational background and Mr. Nathan’s study guide helped me to get in to the right track.
Thanks Nathan for your guidance and support.

    1. That’s great news Krishnanand!! I’m super happy that you passed the CMA exam 🙂 Keep me posted on your next score. Congrats again!

  53. I purchased Gleim Books in 2014 now some changes in Curriculum, i need to order new books or another option. Pls advice.

    1. Reji,

Have you tried calling Gleim? They may be able to exchange your textbooks for new ones at a discount.

  54. Hi Nathan,
I ‘l little bit confused about what’s Inside The CMA Study Guide.
Is it like gleim study package so ıf I get it I do not need any other source to prepare the exam
    Thanks
    Yusuf

    1. Hi Yusuf,

The study guide is packed with exam and study hacks to help you better prepare and pass the exam. It also has a very solid study plan breaking down by week what you need to study, if you plan to self study.

  55. Hi Nathan
I am trying to prepare for Part 2 as first paper I would like to know if it is a good idea to sit in Part two first or it does not matter which part you attempt first.
My other question is that, you use to send a weekly study guide to your subscriber but I am not getting any weekly advice from your website even though I have check my junk folder also.

    1. Hi Islah, either part is fine. But the rule of thumb is if you have a strong background in manufacturing go for Part 1 first. Otherwise Part 2.

Check out my #1 Online Coaching Program if you are interested in being coached by me.

  56. Hi Nathan,
I will take CMA exam in September this year. I am a graduate student of accounting. I am kind of struggling with what review course to choose. Gleim is the best I know but it is quite pricey for me. I was also looking into Fast Forward Academy’s review course and kind of liked it because of their no-frill course design and reasonable pricing. But I don’t want to take any risk as I have to pass both parts by the next two windows. Please advise.

    1. Tasnoova, self-study has proven to have a low pass rate. The global pass rate is less than 35% and most self-study.

FFA could be a good choice for you due to price as long as you are very disciplined and study each day 🙂

Check out my #1 Online Coaching Program if you are interested in being coached by me.

  57. Hi Nathan,

I got my results , unfortunately I got score of 290 , I will have my exam in Jun 15
is there anyway to help me ?

  58. Im a fresh uk accounting and finance graduate and planning to do cma right after my graduation! Do you think it will be difficult for fresh graduates to pass first attempt ? Im thinking to go part 2 and then part 1

    1. Moe, it’s as difficult as anyone else. I had students pass the exam after going through my program. They were still in college at the time and had ZERO work experience. It’s not so much about the review course you choose but rather about the program and study plan that makes the difference.

  59. Hi Nathan,

Can I approach IMA to have a re grade of the recent exam result of 340 score

Please advise about any such re grade case

    1. Yes Binoy absolutely. There’s a small fee of $100 to get your exam regraded but it may be worth it if you are off by a few points.

  60. Hi Nathan,
I got my results today, unfortunately I got score of 330. I dunno what went wrong. Can you help me pass the second time? I plan to sit in June.

  61. Hi Nathan
I am interested in CMA and i am excited to join. I have 9 years of experience in marketing & management filed. When contacting IMA- they said you can take it but you won’t get the actual designation until you satisfy the relevant experience requirement. I have two questions- what are the relatively easy methods that can aid/help me satisfy this requirement without having to 100% switch career? I am convinced that CMA is not only a great accounting qualification but also a great Business qualification.
The second important question is what will i receive after passing the exam? A transcript only? is there any dummy sample online of how it looks- and if it’s helpful to show employees that i already have a CMA but- didn’t yet receive the designation? Thanks

    1. Yaser,

You will receive a transcript of your exam scores that you can show potential employers. The fact that you passed the CMA exam will give you a leg up over your peers who haven’t yet, even if you don’t have the work experience yet. It shows you are very qualified for the job and that you are ready for hands on work.

  62. Hello Nathan

I hope you are doing well

I graduated from Damascus university two years ago and I’m planning to take the CMA, starting part1, my major is Banking and insurance so my accounting knowledge is not that thorough and its really confusing to choose between HOCK & Gleim. I heard that HOCK has a well explained content. which is something I think I may need in my case . on the other hand I find Gleim concise and easy to handle but I am afraid that the textbook won’t be enough and I may need to use some extra materials so please I can use some help.

    thanks in advance

    1. Hi Muhannad,

For your case, I would suggest Wiley. It has the most in-depth material that will help you grasp the concepts better. Their course is great for those who don’t have a strong accounting background. Use coupon code CMACOACH to get a 10% discount.

  63. Hi Nathan, On Feb 26, 2015 I appeared for Part one exam. My MCQ section went well but in essay sections I ran out time and could answer only 6 out of total 8 questions , out of answered questions some are not perfect. I am wondering if could score reasonably good in MCQ what will be my overall score. Thanks, Riyaz Sarang

    1. Riyaz, it’s hard to determine as we don’t know your score in the MCQ section. The IMA awards points instead of taking them away so you’ll definitely get partial points for completing 6 out of the 8 questions in the essay portion.

  64. Hi everyone,
If i pass muötiple choise part in exam with minimum. How much should i score in essay question

    Thank you and regards
    alto

  65. Hi Nathan

    Hope you are doing well.

I’ am an Enrolled Agent and currently working with one of the Big 4. I like the tax profile that i’ am currently into and I was planning on furthering my career prospects. Unfortunately, i have hit a wall on whether to choose CPA or CMA. The fact is CPA does have taxes as a subject, but it does not comprehensively cover taxes as a EA does, so apart from Taxes there is nothing there that interests me. So moving forward, will getting a CMA help me out? is it beneficial as I’ am more into a tax profile. I understand that CPA might be a more suited option, but i want to know if CMA can also help me on where i’ am right now?

    1. Hi Navin,

If your career will be centered around taxes, the CPA is the way to go. The CMA will not provide you with beneficial knowledge in that area.

  66. Hello Nathan,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I am a considering a career in accounting, but I am confused as to how to begin. I have a bachelors degree in transportation management, and an MBA in leadership. I do not work in any of these fields due to lack of experience, I completed the degrees back to back at a very young age. I currently work in sales. I have read a lot on your page, and management accounting seems to fit my personality. Could you please advise me on what to do. Should I go back for an undergraduate degree in accounting?. I must say that I don’t have strong math skills, but I want a very challenging career that will provide job security and a reasonable income. Thanks in anticipation.

    1. Hi Vickie,

Thanks for reaching out. You don’t need to go back to get a bachelor’s in accounting. With the right review course, you can become a CMA. Actually, one of my students had no accounting background like you, and passed the exam with my coaching program. Check it out as I think you’ll have a much better change at passing with coaching.

  67. Dear Sir/Madam,
I want to now, is I am able for student membership or not???
I am not a Bachelor student, my qualification is D.Com (D.Com=Intermediate).
I am not attending any college and prepare CMA as self study.
I am living in Pakistan and I am 25 years old.

Dear sir/madam I know these are boring question for you may be. But I am in trouble from 2 months. Please help me!!!!

    Regards,

  68. Hello Nathan,
I must say what a wonderful resource and guideline you have provided for all aspiring CMA candidates. Thank you for all your wonderful contribution. I am currently pursuing CMA part 1 exam hopefully in June right after my graduation( BBA Accounting). I have 9 Credit hours left with classes mon and wednesday in the morning hours. I purchases gleim 2015 textbook and online test prep software. I want to know if i have enough time to give the exam in June given that i study 4 times a week at 5 hours a day. I have not purchased essay wizard due to budget constraints. Is the test prep software alone enough or is that taking a risk? Lastly, as im graduating soon i was told to register as professional since i live in the middle east and cannot avail the young professional membership. My final question is when do i have to upload the transcripts? before taking the exams or after having taken them? Thanks a lot for all your help

    1. Hi Ahmed,

Thank you for your kind words. I’m very happy to help aspiring CMAs. That’s what I’m here for. This credential has done so much for me in terms of career and knowledge that I know others will benefit just as I have, if not more.

If you study 20 hours a week diligently, I think you will be ready to take the exam. There’s a lot more that goes with that but putting in the time is super important.

Gleim is a great product for self-study. If you learn what’s taught on the textbook and also take mock exams, you’ll be able to take on the essay questions.

The transcripts can be uploaded to your account over at http://www.imanet.org anytime before or after your exam.

  69. I am currently researching either Gleim or Wiley as the test prep to use. I have Part 1 of Gleim from several years ago but find that the explanation of answers and outline of the chapters is confusing at times. I’ve only been slightly exposed to the Wiley test prep but was wondering what can Wiley offer in terms of preparation that Gleim does or cannot offer? I’m really looking for the most sure fire way to pass the test and be able to retain as much knowledge as possible. Please let me know, thank you.
    Dave

    1. Dave,

Gleim is an excellent review course but is geared for candidates with solid accounting experience. In your case, I would go with Wiley because their content is more in-depth and better covered.

If you are interested in working with me, I invite you to check out CMA Exam Academy. Either way, I’m here to help.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Nathan

  70. Hi Nathan
I am planning to sit the CMA Exam but i am still contemplating on to star can you please help me out.

  71. hi nathan …. I have gleim 2012 16th edition review course. is it possible for me to pass paper from that course, because I do not have enough money to buy latest one. please advise me

    1. Aalee,

I would recommend that you use the latest Gleim version to prepare for the exam. There’s new content not covered in your textbook.

  72. Hi Nathan,

I am planning to take the part 2 in June 2015. Do I have to buy the gleim 2015 edition due to some changes? I have the 16th edition.
    Thank you and more power.

    1. Hi Naia,

Please use the latest Gleim edition to prepare for the 2015 exam. Older editions don’t include new content found in the 2015 exam.

    1. Manna,

The CMA (IMA) is a globally recognized designation. I’m not very familiar with the CIMA (UK) or the CMA (Canada) but it appears to be that both are recognized in those respective countries. If you are in the UK, which designation do you see more often asked in job postings? CMA or CIMA?

  73. Dear Nathan,

I am Suman from India , Working as Finance Manager in mid size firm. And Decided to advance my career further in the area of Management Accounting and in search of courses for advancement I have found your website and I am very much admired by your website information about US CMA. And I am planning to give my exams in Sep/Oct 2015 Exam Window. Is time frame which I set is idle or plz guide me as well in this regard.

  74. Dear Mr. Nathan

I have two materials for Gleim, one is sixteenth edition and one 2015 so which one in the latest one is it 2015?

  75. Dear Nathan,

I am Mehrab from Bangladesh. First of all i want to thank you from core of my heart for your great initiative.

CMA is not a popular course in Bangladesh like other professional accountancy programs (i.e. ACCA/CIMA/ICAEW etc.). But i am very much eager to complete CMA (IMA) program. But, unfortunately materials (CMA authorized) are not available here. I studied on different accounting as well as related ACCA & CIMA books. I know all these are not sufficient enough to pass the exam. It will be great pleasure for me as well as all CMA students if you took initiative about compilation of lecture notes and question banks.

    Thanks

  76. I have appeared in Oct’2014 CMA part 1 exam but missed one eassay question. But I did well in MC and one eassay question. Waht is the chances of my passing?

    1. Hi Asif,

I have similar situation for the exam (Part 1) that I appeared in Feb 2015. So, what is the outcome in your case.

      Regards,

      Riyaz

  77. Dear Mr. Nathan

I’m preparing for the part 1 and almost ready for the exam in Jan-Feb window… However, in the case of failure, is it possible to resubmit for the exam during the same window?

    Greta Thanks,
    Kevork

  78. Hi Nathan,
First of all thanks for your giving support to all the students like me.
I am going to take 2 part of the exam in Feb 25 – 2015 and i am studing Wily book
Is it posible to get the previous question papers or some of the question for Part 2 ?

Thanks in advance for your support.

    Br, Naveen CV

    1. Did you purchase your Wiley course with the online test bank? If so, you’ll find over 2,000 retired questions in it.

  79. Dear Nathan,
I am planning to join CMA and would like to ask you some doubts.
Which part should i take first 1 or 2, because i don’t have exp in manufacturing. i am bachelor in commerce and working as an accountant for the last 4 years.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Shafeek,

In your case, I would go for Part-Two first. That’s what I did too since I didn’t have manufacturing experience at the time.

If you’d like me to personally teach you the CMA subject matter, feel free to check out CMA Exam Academy.

      1. Sir I’m opting for cma exam
the only thing which is worrying me is that I’m a non maths student and I heard there is lot of maths ie the derivative part I’m good in basic maths but in not at all good in solving derivatives problem so plz tell me is it really that difficult – I’m waiting for your reply

        1. Hi Shrinivas,

yes there are a lot of mathematical calculations in the exam. However, you will get really good at them during your prep for the exam. Follow a solid study plan, use the best CMA review course, and get an instructor to help you. That’s my advice for you.

If you’d like me to personally teach you the CMA subject matter, feel free to check out CMA Exam Academy.

  80. hi Nathan,
actually I`m facing a problem I purchase gleim the sixteen edition(full package )and I make it self study but I didn’t pass last june 2014 but I will not give-up and I will start studying again but the problem that I`m facing now is the change of the format and I don`t know how to start again and from which point specially I don`t have any material for the new format and what is the change between the two formats .
your advise is really needed and appreciated.

    Best Regards,
    khaled

    1. Khaled,

Please reach out to Gleim and see if they can update your material to the 2015 format. I’m not sure of they’ll do it but it’s worth a shot.

  81. Hi Nathan,

Am planning to write cma part 1 in feb 2015 . I have 3months time.I have gleim material with me.i would like to purchase your study guide also.
1.Can u please suggest me how to start my preaparation and also i could spend only 3 hours a day to study.
2.Is gleim enough to pass exam?or should i again study ima books also?
    3. where should i do mock exams ?
    4. What are the other valuable suggetions and advices to pass the exam in 1st attempt.

I would be glad if u reply me asap.
    Thanks

    1. Hi Sange,

3 hours a day is a good amount to study. If you already have the Gleim system, that is enough to prepare well for the exam if your preference is to self-study. I don’t think it’s necessary to buy additional self-study review courses.

Your Gleim system should include a test bank. You’d do your mock exams in it.

My study guide is a great resource to get started on the right foot. It has a plan and strategies on how to pass the exam 🙂 Also check out my blog page for free content.

  82. Hi Nanthan,

I would like to take CMA PART 1 in feb 2015.Please suggest me regarding preparation plan and which books are to be followed.

  83. Hi Nathan,

I have a bacheolre degree in accounting with no work experience in accounting and am planning to have the CMA exam and am willing to study hard but am wondering if it would be difficult for me to pass the exam with no work experience?? because working give us knowledge in many areas of accounting rather than studying only.. am kinda confused. please tell me the right thing to do and i appreciate it.

    Regards

    Adam

    1. Adam,

In your case, I would highly encourage you to take an instructor-led course to help you understand the content of the CMA exam. Self study is probably not the best choice for you.

  84. Hello
I am preparing my CMA I am currently in part one and I am Planning to take Part one test on January and Part two test on May , I am not afraid of the exam but, what I am afraid of not finding a suitable Job could you help me Please .

    Regards

  85. My husband and I are both about to start studying for the CMA. I received Gleim materials today but feel the text isnt thorough enough, however i like the online part. Do you think Wiley has a more in dept text and that we could get one of each to study? what are your suggestions. I need a lot of review materials to learn.

    1. Hi Ladonna,

It’s so awesome that both of you will prepare for this exam together. What a great support system 🙂

Regarding your question, Wiley has more in-depth content than Gleim. But I would advice on NOT using two different textbooks. It can get confusing. My advice is to pick one and stick with it.

  86. Hi Nathan,

Am Ginse, i did my B. Com and Masters in Fiance & Control, and presently working as Senior Treasury Accountant.

I am planning for CMA Part 2, please guide me.

    Regards
    GNS

    1. Hi Ginse,

I’d be happy to give you direction. I have a free study course on this site, but if you want to work with me one-on-one, enroll in my CMA online prep video course were I teach the subject matter and help my students pass the exam with great success.

  87. Hi Nathan,
would like to ask you for help.
I have failed in CMA part 2 and now I decided to buy some books to try again.
Can you pls advise where i can buy the books like Van Horn ( fundamentals of fin statements) and Gibson ( fin reporting&analysis)?
will be really thankfull for your advise!

    BR,
    Sylvia

    1. Hi Sylvia,

I’m sorry that you didn’t pass the exam but you will next time around. I’m here to help 🙂

Have you looked on Amazon.com? They have a ton of books and most likely carry the titles you are looking for.

  88. Nathan,

I passed the CMA recently and then got a new job.

I don’t really need the CMA while I’m working – but I think it looks good on my resume. Should I let the designation lapse rather than pay the yearly dues?

Then when I’m back in the job market I wil reactivate my membership.

Have you heard of anyone doing this?

    Thoughts?

    -Jimmy

    1. Hi Jimmy,

The IMA membership is quite valuable in my opinion. You’ll have access to their monthly publications, be able to join IMA local chapters and network with fellow CMAs. That in itself is valuable even if you are not looking for a job at the moment. Who knows, one of those contacts may help you take your career to the next level.

      Nathan

  89. Hi Nathan,
Is this something that can be learned by studying, reading, taking the practice exams, etc? I am a newly graduated professional with a couple years financial experience, however, worry it may be too advanced for me. I just need a honest opinion!
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Lucy,

Yes it is something that can be learned by studying, reading and taking mock exams. If you feel it’s too advanced may I suggest checking out my CMA Video Course? I personally prepare CMA candidates through video lectures, quizzes, etc.

Let me know what you think. Either way I’m always here to help you even if you choose to self-study 🙂

  90. Dear Mr.Nathan,
3 Years back I have registered in IMA & starts CMA through self study.for that reason I have purchased GLEIM Study Text 15th edition for both parts.but in my first attempt i have not cleared CMA Part-1 & have stopped.again i want to continue my studies but after 3 years my student membership was canceled & i have to re-register for all of these.

Please let me know whether i can continue my old GLEIM study materials or do i have to buy new edition?for the time being i don’t have question bank & mock exams CD.please suggest me how to start my CMA studies.

I am working in Finance Department in Kuwait & have knowledge of accounting but long time i have not attempt any exams.in my busy schedule how can mange all these.

also can i register IMA again after completing studies for CMA Part 1 & 2.otherwise again something going on wrong it really disaster for me.please advice me for these issues which i am suffering.but this time i am going to clear my CMA exams any how.

awaiting your valuable ideas & advise

    Thanks in advance
    Randolph

    1. Hi Randolph,

Thank you for reaching out. I’m commend you for not giving up and still pursuing the CMA designation. It’ll pay off in the end, I promise 🙂

I believe the 15th edition still works if you take the exam in the Sept/Oct testing window. I say that because the exam format will change in 2015. If you choose to wait until then, I would recommend that you purchase a new edition.

We are in mid-July and there’s enough time to enroll and take the exam for either Part One or Part Two. I would discourage you from trying to take both in the same testing window.

How’s self-study for you? It sounds like you may need an instructor to help you with the tough concepts. If that’s the case, check out CMA Exam Academy.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I’m always ready to help 🙂

      Nathan

  91. Hi Nathan
I have completed topics such as Ethics for management accountants and cost management concepts and Internal control risk and procedures for control. I have got up to 80% in the practice test but I am unable to answer the essay questions properly. Can you tell me how I should tackle the essay questions. I also had one doubt about CMA exam .Do they have a separate pass percent for essay questions , I mean if I get 60% percent in MCQ and if I dnt do well in essay do i pass or not the exam????

  92. Hi Nathan
I had one doubt the link that you had shared for the instructor led videos , is the video in these lectures based on wiley or gleim books, because Iam planning to buy gleim books and take the video lecture from the link that that you had send I mean the CMA academy , will that be a good idea????

    1. Hi Jisna,

The video lectures are based on the CMA subject matter that you’ll be tested on. Having said that, we use Wiley’s textbooks in the academy, but if you already have textbooks from another publisher, you can use them too. It’ll work just fine.

  93. hi Nathan, hope u r fine 🙂

first i’d like to thank u for ur efforts & ur great study plans.

i have inquiry about do i supposed to calculate present/future value factors in part.2 exam by myself or they will provide me a table with all factors i need in my exam.

and if i sppose to calculate it by myself, how can i do this with a six-function casio calculator (DX-125)

    thanks alot

  94. Good afternoon, Nathan.

I was wondering if you could give me a little advice on what you think I should do next. I am graduating in 3 days from DePaul University with an accounting degree. I have been working full time at a small engineering corporation as an accounting assistant. I am gaining valuable experience regarding A/R, A/P, Invoicing for services, reconciliations, etc.

I have decided early on that obtaining a CPA is just something I am not interested in. I have no desire to go into tax, audit, or any related fields. So I researched how to obtain a CMA. It seems like the steps are laid out, yet I still find myself a bit confused on what to do. I am only 23 years old but would love to get my CMA. I would love to hear your personal advice on how you’d go about obtaining a CMA if you were in my shoes.

    Thank you,
    Chris

  95. Hi Nathan,
Thanks for your valuable comments . I have done my bachelors in business management and I have also completed a few papers in ACCA but I was unable to complete the course because I felt it was difficult for me so before doing CMA I just want to be sure and with respect to passing the paper in oct 2014 I just need to know how much time should I put in and in any case Iam not working so I think I can put in my best and I also wanted to know about the online class . The CPA/CMA institute is providing online class but the fees is 1375 dollars with the books and software given by gleim , so I need to know if it is worth it and are the gleim books good than wiley???

    1. Hi Jisna,

If you put in at least 3 hours a day or more, you’ll have enough time to sit for the exam in October 2014.

The online class seems very expensive. Have you checked out my CMA Exam Academy? It’s a more affordable alternative. I personally teach the CMA subject matter.

The Gleim CMA review course is great for candidates with a background in accounting, and Wiley CMAexcel is great for candidates who need extra content and more in-depth explanations.

  96. Hi Nathan,

Would you advise to take Part2 of the CMA exam first instead of Part 1?

    Thank you in advance ,
    Ginalin Tan

    1. Hi Ginalin,

I took part 2 first because my background in manufacturing was weak and was afraid to fail Part 1. By passing Part 2 it gave me the confidence I needed to prepare for Part 1.

In other words, it depends on your background. Do you have a strong manufacturing background? If so, Part 1 would be a good option to start with.

  97. im a degree student and i want to become cma after my course , should i need to prepare from now onwards?

    1. Romy,

If your current responsibilities allow you to carve time to study for the CMA, I say why not do it? You’ll be ahead of the game and your competition for those high paying jobs.

  98. Hi Nathan,

I am a CA Inter from India. Wanted to take up CMA course as well. Based on the above discussion I could figure out that Gleim and Wiley are good edcuation providers. Can you suggest which is better and if Gleim provides study material for all the topics for both the papers. Also, do they have any online classes which I can attend. Please advise.

    Regards, Amit !

    1. Amit,

If you are looking for an online instructor-led course, I would like to direct you to CMA Exam Academy. In this academy, I personally teach the CMA subject matter.

If you purchase Gleim or Wiley, it’ll be for self-study only.

  99. hi,

I’m interested in taking the CMA certification. However,i have a doubt on qualification.I have a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from INDIA.Will this be enough to write the exam or only those with undergraduate degrees in accountancy or commerce are allowed to write.I would attending be Syracuse university from this fall for ms in information management and i plan to pursue my cma exam by next year.It would also be helpful if you could suggest time required for preparation as i’m from non-accounting background.

    thank you
    thank you

    1. Nandakumar,

I believe any Bachelor’s degree will suffice. It is not required it be in Accounting.

Plan on studying 3 to 6 months per part.

  100. hi iam ahlam

when i practice question on glime cd i have score between 79% and 83 %

my question is do you believe that i have a big chance to pass the exam first time

  101. Hi Nathan,
I am considering to take CMA exam this year and not sure I should purchase Gleim or Wiley review material. Could you please advise which material I need to use?

I got my CPA license last year and when I took my CPA exam, BEC is my weakest subject and I just barely passed it but all other CPA subjects I scored okay and received average 85 points. I heard CMA exam part I materials are pretty closed to BEC that’s why I am pretty concern/scare to take the CMA. Also, I am not very good at writing essay during the exam since I take my time to write a stuff. When I took my CPA exam, I used Backer review course (I really like it) since I usually do not like to study a lot but just do a lot of multiple choice question on the computer. So could you please let me know which material I need to purchase since the exam fee and review materials are pretty costly and not sure I need to go for another license?

Thank you so much for your time in advance!

    1. Hi Mimi,

You have a strong background in accounting. I mean you are a CPA 🙂

In your case, I would recommend Gleim. It is better suited for candidates like yourself with a strong accounting background.

  102. Thanks Mr Nathan.I will do but please tell me from where I can get mock exams?.I wanna ask that what if I go through gliem practice cd? Bcoz in this cd itself test prep & study sessions are there.I have gleim study book too

    1. Sarfaraz,

So sorry for the late reply. I missed your comment.

Mock exams can be purchased from one of the CMA publishers such as Gleim and Wiley.

  103. How can I get the retired CMA questions? Also I need your advise, how to study the internal control section, it’s very hard plus hock’s internal control is very long and difficult, I’m thinking to study the flash cards only.

    1. You can find retired CMA exam questions in test banks from Gleim, Wiley, Hock, etc.

I wouldn’t recommend studying from flash cards only. They are good aids but shouldn’t be solely relied on them.

  104. Dear Mr Nathan.I am planing to give cma part 1 exam with in 3 months.I have gleims study kit.I am confused about my preperations.please help me that how time I should give to studies on daily basis.techniques & the areas where l should focus more .I am working person & not a full time student.
    Thanks
    Sarfaraz

    1. Sarfaraz,

Study at least 2 to 3 hours each day and take many mock exams to get familiar with the exam format and time constraint.

As for the areas to focus on, it’s very hard to tell from the distance. I would encourage you to take a mock exam before studying. This will help you identify the weak areas that should be focused on more.

  105. Hi Nathan,
I just finished my PHD in management accounting and hope to get the cma…..any recommendations?
what best references i can use more?
    thanks

    1. Bakil,

Congrats on your PHD! That’s fantastic.

I would recommend Gleim or Exammatrix for you since you have a very strong background in management accounting.

  106. Hiii,

My name is Ruchika. Im feeling difficuilty in studying section D of CMA part 1, which deals with internal controls and auditing. Kindly provide me with necessary guidance as to how to study it . in case you can provide me with some notes.

  108. Nathan, I am trying to decide which of Wiley, Gleim or Hock would be the best solution for my studies of the CMA program. I completed a Bachelors degree back in 1975 and so I need a program that will provide with a lot of background material as you can appreciate. Will ay of the 3 providers mentioned be able to provide me with in depth material for me to pass the course?

    Thanks,

    Selwyn

    1. Selwyn,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m always glad to help.

Since you are looking for an in-depth course, I would highly recommend Wiley CMAexcel. It’s a bit pricey but their material is amazing for someone who needs the extra depth in content. If you use coupon code CM14C, you’ll get a 10% discount at checkout.

If I can answer any other questions, let me know.

      Nathan

  109. Hiii,

My name is Ruchika. I want to know whether you are providing and study material of yours to pass the exam in first attempt?. If I purchase gleim material what will be the total cost after discount. Is gleim a good study material for passing part 2 of CMA exams in first attempt. Kindly confirm.

    1. Hi Ruchika,

Gleim is a fantastic course to pass the exam on the first attempt.

I don’t provide study material for the exam, but I do provide a companion guide that teaches how to study and pass the exam on the first attempt.

  110. HIIII,

My name is Ruchika. I had an exam yesturday of CMA part 1 which i was not able to clear. I need your advice as to how to proceed and which material and test bank I should purchase to clear it in my first try. Kindly provide me the necessary guidance.

    ruchika

    1. Hi Ruchika,

I’m so sorry to hear you did not pass the exam, but I’m very glad to see you are not giving up. I’m confident you’ll pass the second time 🙂

The two best CMA review courses are Gleim and Wiley CMAexcel. You can’t go wrong with either one of them.

If you are interested in learning my strategies and tips that helped me pass on my first try, I wrote a CMA companion guide. There’s also a lot of free content on this site. If you go through my blog posts, I’m sure you’ll find valuable content 🙂 Let me know what you think of all this and if I can help any other way.

Pls suggest about the CMA course:-

    2. Is CPE is must and what are the other mandatory requirements.
    3. Duration gap for part 1 & 2 exam attempts.
    4. Do I need to buy gleims or wilseys product as the course is very expensive.
    5. Other related information about the course.

    Awaiting for your quick response.

Thanking you in advance for kind consideration.

    Warm Regards,
    Khaja Moinuddin
    [email protected]

    1. Hi Khaja, my responses listed below:

      1. Complete IMA course fee step by step, should I register as Student or Professional and your guide fee.
Nathan: Read the How to Become CMA page for details. I’d be happy to answer your question but probably it’d be best if you read that page first. Let me know if you still have any questions after 🙂

      2. Is CPE is must and what are the other mandatory requirements.
Nathan: CPE is a requirement but only after you become a CMA, not before.

      3. Duration gap for part 1 & 2 exam attempts.
Nathan: I advice to study for 3 months for each part and give yourself at least 2 weeks of vacation in between to recharge your batteries.

      4. Do I need to buy gleims or wilseys product as the course is very expensive.
Nathan: Yes it’s very important to purchase a review course such as Gleim CMA in order to pass the exam. Gleim CMA has a very good price and you also get a 10% discount 🙂

      5. Other related information about the course.
Nathan: Check out my CMA Toolkit page for additional tools that can help you successfully prepare and pass the exam.

    1. Usman,

If you are still going to school then you qualify for the student membership, otherwise it’s the professional. For information on fees please visit the following page How to Become a CMA

      1. thanks for the reply………..but there is no information about cma entrance fee plz tell m about it ………….there is only 2 fees which are discribe there, cma registration and paper fee of both catagory………………..plz reply a soon as posible thanks

        1. There’s only the certification entrance fee, which is the one I think you are referring to, and also the exam fee.

  113. Hi Nathan, i have 2 queries .

    1. As i registered with IMA i have got an access to IMA exam support package. So, the questions in real exams are just like these questions in support package or they are just for practice ?

    2. What are cma retired questions ?

    1. Adnan,

The questions may be in the same format, multiple-choice questions, but the questions themselves are harder on the exam.

CMA retired questions are the questions that were in previous CMA exams but that have since been retired. By practicing with retired questions, you have a much better chance at passing the exam.

      1. How can I get the retired CMA questions? Also I need your advise, how to study the internal control section, it’s very hard plus hock’s internal control is very long and difficult, I’m thinking to study the flash cards only.

  114. Dear nathan

I hold a double masters degree in MBA and MS in applied finance and have done my ca inter as well.I have worked previously in banking domain as MIS accountant and now presently in IT consulting..So will i be eligible for exemptions for any of the parts in CMA?

Kindly provide your email address so that you can assist me.

    Thanks & Regards

    KartiK V

    1. Hi Kartik,

To verify eligibility for exemptions, I would highly encourage you to reach to the IMA. They are in a much better position to tell you if you are. I wouldn’t want to misguide you.

Having said that, my understand is that MBAs don’t qualify for exemptions. If you have any questions, this is my email address [email protected]

      1. Hi nathan thanks for the reply. WHich study material would be the most apt to refer from exam perspective ? Wiley or Gleim?

        Regards

        Kartik V

Hi Nathan — This link goes to the BAII Plus Professional, which from what I’ve read about the exam is not allowed. According to the IMA, only the BAII Plus (not Professional) is one of the four calculators allowed. http://www.imanet.org/PDFs/Public/CMA/CMA_Instructions_to_Candidates.pdf .

I just wanted to mention this in case you meant to post a different link. I believe if someone bought the Pro version, they would show up and have to use a 10-key!

            Thanks!

            Josh

          2. Hey Josh,

Thanks for looking this up. I’ve checked out your reference and I agree. However, when I took the exam I used the BAII Plus Professional with no problem. But to be safe, I have updated the CMA Toolkit page to reflect the BAII Plus calculator. I appreciate it 🙂

            Nathan

          3. Thanks nathan for that. What is the pass rate globally for CMA? and how do i know whether i qualify for exemptions or not?
Do u have the email address of the person to be reached so that i can assess my eligibility for exemptions?

          4. Kartik, the global pass rate is around 35%. If you go on IMA‘s website and call customer service, someone on the other line will be able to answer your eligibility questions.

  115. Dear Mr. Nathan,

Thanks for spending time and sharing your experience with us.

I am Prabhuraj, Masters in commerce having 4 years of experience in manufacturing sector.

I am going to write part-2 in may – June window.

    I have totally confused.

  116. What CMA program are you referring to? CMA-Australia or CMA-US?

What are the differences between the two?

    1. The CMA exam is the same regardless of country, except Canada. They have a different version of the CMA exam.

  117. Dear Mr. Nathan ,
Please I need to Know if the Yarmouk University in Jordan – Middle East accredited for CMA Program
    Thank you In Advanced
    Regards
    Osama

    1. Osama,

Thanks for reaching out. I would suggest contacting the IMA and inquire about Yarmouk University. They are in a better position to tell you if Yarmouk’s CMA program is endorsed by the IMA.

      Nathan

  118. Nathan,
I should take part 1 in February and I am starting my study plan today. it will be almost 8 weeks, is it possible? I work 9 hours a day and am really eager to pass this exam. I just need to know that is possible to sit for the exam when I only have 8 weeks to study.

    1. Eva, 8 weeks is quite short. The recommended timeframe is 12 weeks. Do you have a very strong background in management accounting? If so, you may be able to pull it off. However, I always recommend 12 weeks.

  119. Hi Nathan,
i am an ACCA affiliate and started CMA now.i attempted part 1 but i failed .now i am planning to take part 1 n part 2 in the same window i.e jan-feb.. will that be okay ? and which study material would you recommend for me ?
please reply to my post ,its urgent .
    thank you.

    1. Aleeza,

Would it be wise to take both exams in the same testing window if you’ve failed one before? I think it’s an ambitious goal and kudos to you for being an overachiever. If I were you though, I would probably take one part first and wait to take the second exam in the next testing window.

  120. Dear Nathan,

I’m interested to buy the package of : Pass the CMA Exam, Guaranteed,
can I transfer the amount of it directly to CMA Coach bank account,
if possible please support with me the address bank.

    Shailaja N Rao

    1. Shailaja,

In your 4 years of banking experience, did you do any financial management? If you did, it would qualify for your CMA credential.

I highly recommend that CMA candidates take at least 3 months to prepare for the exam.

      1. Hello Mr. Nathan,

Thanks very much for your valuable suggestions.

My experience is purely into Banking. But I used to tally entire debit and credit transactions, General Ledger, Miscellaneous day books and as well as vouching and also entire banking operations.

Are these sufficient for to take up my CMA exam?

        Thanks

  123. HI NATHAN,

    1. Ahmed, have you signed up to my free 12-week study course? If you haven’t, please do so. It’ll walk you week by week on what you need to study. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  124. hey nathan,
what is the best course to study CMA from ? is it hock . gleim or wiley ?
and how long will it take to finish the course and to prepare for the exam ?

    1. The best CMA review course for you will depend on your learning style, accounting background, and budget. If you’d like me to help you choose the best course that fits you and your needs, send me an email at [email protected] and tell me more about you. I’ll gladly help you out.

    1. Ryaz,

I highly recommend Gleim if you’ve used Gleim to study. If you’ve used Hock, I would go with Hock’s exam success package.

    2. Hi Nathan
Is your CMA certification done by the IMA or is it your institute who does the certification post clearance of the CMA

    1. In my opinion, if you don’t have a strong background in manufacturing, I would recommend taking Part 2 first. Otherwise Part 1.

  125. Hi Nathan,

I got an e-mail from one of IMA approved training partner in my country about a discount being offered by IMA.
Can you tell me what would be the total cost(Current) if i do this course directly from IMA? I mean with the aid of self study materials

    Regards
    Sankar

    1. Hi Sankar,

The IMA does not offer review courses directly, but through approved partners such as the one who contacted you via email. I would suggest reaching out to them to get specifics on the cost of their review course.

      Nathan

    1. Hello Rasha,

If you have an accounting/finance background, then the Hock materials may be sufficient for you. Do you have mock exams to practice with? That’s another very important component to studying for the CMA.

  126. hello
    i want to:
1-how i can answer the essay question?
2-how i can schedule my time and study effectively and study from Gliem or Ima or hock books
    thanks
    andy

    1. Hey Andy,

Thank you for your questions. Please read this article that was just posted. If after reading it, you still have questions, please leave a comment on that page and I will respond as soon as possible. If I may ask, which part are you studying for?
